ON THIS DAY IN WRESTLING HISTORY: 5/19/1946 - The legend of legends, the man known as the Eighth Wonder of the World, Andre "the Giant" Rousimoff was born on this day in Grenoble, Isere, France. Andre was an iconic professional wrestler that transcended the sport into popular culture, starring in major motion pictures like the Princess Bride. Andre famously feuded with Hulk Hogan, a feud that culminated in one of the most anticipated bouts in wrestling history at WrestleMania III. After a twenty plus year wrestling career, Andre retired in 1992 and sadly passed away shortly thereafter on January 27, 1993. It was recently announced that Andre will be the subject of a long anticipated film based on his life, a life well lived.
