NEWS: Vince McMahon to Relaunch the XFL

NEWS: Vince McMahon challenged the NFL in 2001 when he launched the XFL, the zany McMahon take on professional football. The league was crazy, exciting, and stood apart from its main competition, utilizing storylines and even kayfabe names ala professional wrestling. With all that stated, the XFL was an abysmal failure, barely lasting even one season before closing its doors forever, or so we thought. McMahon; however, is never one to except failure easily and is now dead set on returning to the world of professional football. With the NFL's ratings in decline and controversies amiss over boycotts and anthem protests, McMahon is looking to capitalize on professional football's failings and re-release his failed XFL product 16 years after it shut down. Sports reporter, Brad Shepard, initially broke the story, claiming that McMahon will make the announcement official on January 25, 2018. The WWE commented on the initial report with the following,

"Vince McMahon has established and is personally funding a separate entity from WWE, Alpha Entertainment, to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including professional football. Mr. McMahon has nothing further to announce at this time.”

The WWE's press statement does not confirm Shepard's original report; however, it's hardly a denial either, a typical non admission admission from the company. The word backstage is that the XFL's failure has eaten at McMahon for nearly two decades and he believes that 2018 is the perfect time to resurrect the failed football league, an effort those close to McMahon say was always an inevitability, given his inability to ever accept failure.
