NEWS: According to Wade Keller of the Pro Wrestling Torch, Dean Ambrose has informed WWE CEO Vince McMahon that he intends to leave the WWE after his contract expires this April. McMahon reportedly offered Ambrose a raise and contract extension; however, Ambrose met with McMahon face to face to reject his offer and inform him of his intentions.

Dean Ambrose returned to WWE this August after being away for months to rehabilitate from a scary tendon repair surgery and MRSA that nearly cost him his life. Fans were excited when Ambrose returned and at a fever pitch for his character; however, things soon changed after Ambrose turned heel on the evening of Roman Reigns' leukemia announcement. Inexplicably, Ambrose although  was advertised as a 'lunatic', he became a less interesting version of Batman's Bane. Ambrose started wearing a mask, a fur lined leather bomber jacket, and a silver chain reminiscent of the late 90s boy band era.

Whether WWE should take the blame or Ambrose, himself, is debatable. There is probably plenty of blame to go around for Ambrose's character stalling. When Ambrose appeared on Stone Cold Steve Austin's WWE Network show a few years ago, the WWE Hall of Famer accused him of 'resting on his laurels' and challenged him to raise the bar. Video appears below.

Ambrose was eliminated by NXT's Aleister Black in the Royal Rumble Match and pinned cleanly by Seth Rollins on last night's RAW. He will likely continue being buried until he leaves the company, as WWE will do nothing to add to his value just for a competing promotion like All Elite Wrestling to come in and whisk him away. Ambrose's wife, Renee Young, is on the commentary team for Monday Night RAW, so it will be interesting to see how the situation affects her and whether wrestling fans will have to endure another CM Punk/AJ Lee situation in the WWE.

UPDATE: WWE has issued the following statement:

“Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) will not be renewing his contract with WWE when it expires in April. We are grateful and appreciative of all that Dean has given to WWE and our fans. We wish him well and hope that one day Dean will return to WWE”
