NEWS:

There is trouble brewing in Flair country. WWE Superstar Charlotte Flair may provide more significant public relations difficulties for the WWE, who already have their hands filled with the Saudi Arabian Crown Jewel debacle.

The Charlotte Observer reports that one of WWE's most prominent and recognizable Superstars, Charlotte Flair, once went on a racist tirade during a police incident in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The claim comes from a $5.5 million lawsuit filed against both Charlotte and her father Ric Flair, by Charlotte's ex-husband Riki Paul Johnson. Johnson claims that he was defamed in the book, which he attests included a number of falsehoods.

The WWE and co-author Brian Shields have all also been named as defendants in the lawsuit. According to Johnson, Charlotte was,

"The aggressor in a physical and verbal tirade directed at the responding police officers, as well as disparaging and racist comments being directed at the Afro-American community in Chapel Hill."

In Flair's book Second Nature, which she co-authored with her Hall of Fame father, Charlotte claims to have been arrested after trying to play the role of 'peace maker.' The incident occurred in 2008 and involved Charlotte, her father Ric Flair, and an unnamed 22 year old male.

A passage in the book follows:

"Police arrived, and all hell broke loose. When one of the police officers entered her (Charlotte’s) space and asked her to put her hands behind her back, I heard her say, ‘Don’t touch me. I said don’t touch me.’ The next thing I knew, the officer used a Taser to subdue her. She was brought to the floor and taken into police custody in handcuffs.”

The WWE has issued the following statement,

"We recently received what appears to be a meritless lawsuit and we will vigorously defend ourselves."

WWE's legal team at K&L Gates successfully petitioned the court to have the case moved to a federal court in Charlotte last week.

The last high profile WWE public figure that found himself in hot water for making racist statements was Hulk Hogan. Hogan made racist statements while being unknowingly recorded for a sex tape and was promptly future endeavored and removed from the WWE Hall of Fame. Hogan wouldn't return for another three years and that is one of the biggest names in wrestling history.
