NEWS: WWE's announcement of The Fabulous Moolah Battle Royal was met with waves of controversy that reverberated throughout the social media world. Some wrestling fans turned a blind eye toward allegations against The Fabulous Moolah, who is the longest reigning female wrestling champion of all time, while others spread those allegations as irrefutable fact. Despite staying relatively controversy free during her fifty year career, Moolah has been accused of sex trafficking and subjugating women who were trained by her. Some claim Moolah pimped her trainees out to highest bidders and took an astounding 35% of her trainees wrestling income. Jeannine Mjoseth, a former Moolah trainee, issued the following statement,
"The Fabulous Moolah was a real-life heel. A lot of women paid to train at her school and then went out on the road. They risked life and limb in their matches and she repaid them with the worst kinds of abuses. She skimmed their money, she ignored women who were badly hurt, she pimped women out to creepy men and on and on. She was not a mother figure. She was more like Kali, the Indian Goddess of Destruction. I met her in my early 20s and I had never met such a monstrous person. I was smart enough to get the hell away from her and start my own independent career in Tampa as part of the Championship Wrestling from Florida. Luna Vachon, Peggy Fowler and I all left together, which I hope put a serious dent in her confidence, if not wallet. I understand why Moolah was so grotesque. Her family was dirt poor and she determined that she was never going to be hungry again. But it doesn’t excuse her dog-eat-dog behavior. I’d much rather see WWE establish a named match for outstanding wrestlers (and decent human beings) like Susan ‘Tex’ Green, Beverly Shade, Leilani Kai, Wendi Richter, Princess Victoria or Joyce Grable. They all put their hearts and souls into wrestling for decades and helped others along the way. But wrestling isn’t PC. It’s about generating heat. And you can’t draw more heat than naming a match for The Fabulous Moolah. May she be the last of her kind."

An online petition is being generated in order to sway the WWE into renaming the Fabulous Moolah Battle Royal. The petition is generated by a group known as Wrestling Outsiders and states the following,
"So today WWE announced The Fabulous Moolah Battle Royal that will be taken place at the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania 34. But the big problem with that is the person who is associated with that award was an evil woman who did nothing for Women’s Professional Wrestling. Fabulous Moolah pimped out women ... we are currently in the #MeToo era, are you really trying to say that you endorsed her behavior?  This isn’t right at all, if you want to have a Battle Royale, name it after someone worthy, like Miss Elizabeth, Chyna, Trish, Lita, Sensational Sheri, Jacqueline, Alundra Blaze... Need I go on? We hope all Wrestling fans will take the time to support this petition because if you think this is right you are just as bad as them."

Fans interested in signing the petition may do so HERE. The WWE has yet to release a statement in response to the controversy; but, rest assured they already know about the sordid allegations surrounding Moolah. It is important to know that these are allegations and not matters of fact. The accused passed away in 2007 and is unable to make a defense. Secondly, Moolah's wrestling career speaks for itself as do her in-ring accolades. At the risk of losing readers, we ranked her as the number one most important female in wrestling history. We are not sanctioning or condoning her moral choices; however, we are acknowledging the obvious historical importance of Moolah as a female wrestler. We stand by that decision, as arguably no other female wrestler in history did more for sports entertainment than Moolah. For example, Ulysses S. Grant was the greatest and most accomplished Civil War General and he fought for the good guys (the North). He was also the last United States President to have ever held slaves in his life-time; but, Grant was a Civil War hero, a General who served Abraham Lincoln as an integral component of the North's victory over the South. Historians don't start the story of the United States Presidency with Rutherford B. Hayes, Grant's successor. Instead, we acknowledge Grant's moral failings to have held slaves; but, also the important place he served in history. His home is available to visit in Galena, Illinois where there are statues built in his honor. In a similar sense, there is no telling the story of women's wrestling without Moolah. That doesn't mean we condone her behaviors, nor do we delete her accomplishments from history. We can acknowledge her moral failings, as well as the recent allegations against her; however, we must also acknowledge her historical importance to the world of professional wrestling. The same can be said of Chris Benoit, Hulk Hogan, Donald Trump, and to a lesser extent Chyna. They all had significant moral failings; but, were too important to the story of wrestling to simply be deleted from history. If the WWE learns anything from this, we hope its consistency and the ability to separate a performer's in-ring accomplishments from their moral failings outside of the ring.

Some of WWE's female talent had the following to say about Moolah.
