BREAKING: 'Mean' Gene Okerlund Passes Away
BREAKING:
Legendary announcer 'Mean' Gene Okerlund has passed away at the age of 76. Okerlund received the 'Mean' moniker from Jesse 'The Body' Ventura during his fifteen year run in the AWA.
The world class announcer (who was anything, but mean) would eventually depart the AWA to become a significant part of WWF's golden era. Okerlund was known for his interviews, where he often played a straight laced sarcastic character in contrast to some of the most colorful wrestling personalities in history.
Okerlund became a part of one of Hulk Hogan's most popular catchphrases, 'Let me tell you something Mean Gene,' before joining Hogan in WCW for a highly successful run in the 90s.
Hogan tweeted today:
Okerlund was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004 and also starred alongside the late 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper in the WWE Network reality series Legend's House. Okerlund was the recipient of two kidney transplants during his lifetime. One of those came from his wife Jeanne, who mourns his passing today.Mean Gene I love you my brother HH— Hulk Hogan (@HulkHogan) January 2, 2019
Cheap Heat Wrestling would like to express our condolences to Okerlund's family, friends, and fans.
