NEWS: The WWE's original plans for John Cena at 2018's WrestleMania 34 included a dream match against none other than the Dead Man himself, The Undertaker. The WWE tossed around the idea of making the match a career match where both wrestlers would put their respective wrestling careers on the line and word is that John Cena, who is increasingly taking time off to pursue acting, would have lost the match to the Undertaker. WWE; however, isn't confident that Undertaker will be healthy enough to compete at this year's WrestleMania and aren't sure if he even would, considering his WrestleMania 33 match against Roman Reigns was widely seen as and supposed to have been his last hurrah. Initially WWE changed course with a match between A.J. Styles and John Cena. The two have already competed in some of the best wrestling matches of all time and the bout would be seen as the decisive WrestleMania caliber end to their feud; but, Vince McMahon wanted something even bigger for Cena, so the Styles match was nixed. Now rumors include two legendary names the WWE would like to bring back at some point. Former WCW Superstar, Goldberg, has been mentioned as a potential John Cena opponent and this one may be shocking; but, so has Hulk Hogan. The WWE sees Hogan's return to the company as imminent and when he does return, they know that Hogan desperately wants one more match to cement his legacy and close the book on his legendary career. If that match were to occur, the WWE sees a Hogan vs Cena WrestleMania match as a huge money making draw that they must capitalize on. The WWE also has a great deal of faith in Cena's in-ring abilities. They believe John Cena is one of the few wrestlers on the roster capable of leading Hogan in the ring to a decent match, despite Hogan's age and diminished physical condition. Hogan hasn't worked for the WWE since the summer of 2015, after being unceremoniously fired over racist comments he made while being unknowingly filmed in a sex tape. Whichever John Cena opponent the WWE ultimately goes with the WWE Universe won't have to wait long. All will be decided and publicly revealed at the upcoming 25th Anniversary episode of RAW on January 22nd.
