NEWS: Arguably the most controversial figure in the history of MMA is inevitably WWE bound. According to sources, Conor McGregor and the WWE are negotiating a deal that will pay the Irish MMA fighter north of six figures for a bout at WrestleMania 34 and several appearances preceding the event. One anonymous WWE source told Adam Higgins of The Sun,
"Conor is a huge wrestling fan. His entire persona on stage he has developed from watching performers like Ric Flair and The Rock. These are the top dogs at self-promotion and trash talk. He watched these guys when he was younger. This is something he's always wanted to do. The WWE guys have asked him to do shows before with them but the timing was never really right. But this time it looks like a deal is going to be locked into place."
McGregor will come to the WWE after one of the most controversial and hyped boxing matches in history against Floyd Mayweather. During the promotion of the said fight, McGregor was levied with accusations of racism. Despite it all, McGregor made more than $30 million USD in his loss against Mayweather. Although McGregor is a life-long WWE fan, he has already drawn the ire of much of the WWE locker room after he lashed out with incendiary comments about wrestling's inferiority. With McGregor's signing an inevitability at this point, speculation has begun as to who his opponent will be. Early backstage rumblings indicate that McGregor's opponent will be none other than fellow Irishman, Finn Balor.
