NEWS: The WWE was blindsided by the unexpected WWE Universe support for Rusev, Aiden English, and their newfound Rusev Day Movement. It all began in December 2017 with the strange pairing of English and Rusev, who were seen more as forgotten WWE castoffs than as two wrestlers with a future. As Aiden English began to sing, "Rusev Daaaaaaay," everything changed with a song. Suddenly Rusev and English were over with the WWE Universe and not just over; but, two of the top Superstars on the roster. The Rusev Day movement took over arenas and fans chanted their allegiance the world over, ala Daniel Bryan's Yes Movement. This was an unexpected development for the WWE, as Rusev had been deeply dissatisfied with his role in the company, even asking for his release shortly before the pairing. The WWE doesn't do so well with organic movements and oftentimes fail to adapt. As Rusev and Aiden English grew more popular, that wasn't met with an increase in opportunity for the duo. Rusev was added to the United States Championship Fatal 4-Way at WrestleMania 34; but, was almost a forgotten part of the match. Instead, Rusev's ex partner, Jinder Mahal, would achieve victory despite the plethora of, "Rusev Day" chants in the SuperDome. Recently the WWE announced that Rusev would face The Undertaker in a Casket Match at The Greatest Royal Rumble; but, The Bulgarian Brute was not enthused. In fact, Rusev halfheartedly tweeted the following:

The tweet reportedly drew the ire of the WWE front office, who responded by almost immediately removing Rusev from the match and replacing him with WWE legend, Chris Jericho. There is increased chatter about Rusev being unappreciative and too big for his britches. Now there are murmurings from the WWE front office that the company may honor Rusev's previous request and terminate his contract. Rusev has since changed his Twitter profile picture and replaced it with a caption picture that states, "Other versions of you," a veiled reference to leaving the company and  wrestling under his real name, Miroslav Barnyashev. Rusev then confirmed the aforementioned with the following tweet:

It will be Rusev day somewhere, or even Barnyashev Day, which just doesn't have the same ring to it. The ring isn't as important to Rusev as opportunity and opportunity comes in the form of championship gold.

UPDATE: Rusev has removed all references to the WWE from his Twitter account.
