ON THIS DAY IN WRESTLING HISTORY: 11/9/1997 - Shawn Michaels defeated Bret "Hitman" Hart for the WWE Championship when Earl Hebner (the referee) was ordered by Vince McMahon to ring the bell early, while Shawn held Bret in his own submission hold, before a stunned Canadian crowd. The incident is now infamously known as the Montreal Screwjob.
