NEWS: WWE Issues Official Statement on Charlotte/Paige RAW Angle
NEWS: WWE has released an official statement regarding the highly controversial RAW angle that saw Paige mock Charlotte's real life deceased brother, Reid Flair. Many wrestling fans were upset over the angle & as Cheap Heat Wrestling previously reported, so were members of Charlotte Flair's family including; Ric Flair, her mother Elizabeth Fliehr, and long-time family friend Jim Ross. The WWE has released the following:
Subject matter this personal is only approved as a result of the strong advocacy of the talent themselves. Notwithstanding that, WWE is ultimately responsible for what airs in its programming.
The implications here are obvious. For one, Charlotte was obviously at the very least aware of the angle before it was played out on television. Cheap Heat Wrestling previously reported that Charlotte was indeed the one who came up with the angle and pushed for its inclusion on television. Secondly "WWE is ultimately responsible for what airs in its programming." Notice there is no apology at all in the WWE's statement. For better or worse, the company obviously stands by its decision to proceed with the controversial angle.
