NEWS: Why Randy Orton Was Written Off Backlash
NEWS: In a stunning surprise, one of WWE SmackDown's top stars, Randy Orton, was written off last night's Backlash PPV. Earlier in the evening, Orton was seen being attacked by Bray Wyatt and then suffered a scripted lower leg injury. Wyatt was awarded the victory over Orton via forfeit and ended up taking on Kane in a No Holds Barred match instead. According to sources, Randy Orton is still not 100% from the concussion he suffered against Brock Lesnar at this year's SummerSlam PPV. WWE is being cautious with him as head injuries are taken very seriously within the company, especially in light of recent lawsuits. While Randy Orton did appear at last evening's Backlash event and even involved himself in the match, the WWE does not feel comfortable with clearing him to compete in a full contact match, at this point. They are treating his head injury the same way they treated Cena's shoulder injury at this year's WrestleMania. Cena showed up at Mania and even became physically involved (along with long-time nemesis the Rock) against the Wyatts; but, did not compete in a full match until a RAW in late May. There is no word yet on when Orton will be officially cleared; however, rest assured it won't be until he's fully recovered from the concussion he suffered at the hands of Brock Lesnar.
