NEWS: WWE Continues to Demonstrate Insensitivity Toward Mental Illness
NEWS: WWE finally responded to Mauro Ranallo's continued absence, as he struggles with chronic bipolar disorder. The response included no discipline of bully JBL, who has continually victimized Ranallo both on the air and via social media. Instead the response failed to mention Ranallo's bipolar disorder, nor did the WWE extend well wishes to Ranallo. The WWE simply exerted their contractual power over Ranallo, "Mauro Ranallo remains under contract with the WWE until August 12, 2017." With that stated, Ranallo will not ever be returning to WWE television, especially considering his broadcast partner is JBL, someone who has show a serious proclivity (with no repercussions) toward abuse over the years. Meanwhile former WWE Superstar April Mendez-Brooks (A.J. Lee) is on a book tour in promotion of her first book entitled Crazy is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts and Breaking the Rules. Brooks revealed that she was once punished by the WWE for refusing to poke fun of the mentally ill in a WWE storyline. The WWE wanted Brooks to take part in a storyline where she would play a mentally ill character and hallucinate, seeing imaginary leprechauns and dinosaurs. Brooks refused to participate in the storyline, as she found it insensitive to sufferers of mental illness, including herself and her mother, who both suffer from bipolar disorder. WWE's response to Brooks' refusal was to punish her by removing her from television for two months.
