THE WEEKLY WRESTLER

WWE Dropped the Ball on the Women's Money in the Bank Match
The first Women's Money in the Bank Match was eagerly anticipated by most of the WWE Universe. History is always supposed to be special and this match wasn't supposed to be any different. Fans from all over the world waited for the opportunity to see history. This was unbeknownst to the WWE. After years of hard work, the women of the WWE pulled themselves out of the pillow fight and bikini era to be seen as legitimate in-ring competitors, on par or even superior to their male counterparts. Then this happened. In what can only be seen as the biggest setback to women's wrestling since the word "diva," James Ellsworth climbed to the top of the ladder and handed the briefcase to Carmella. A woman didn't even climb the ladder herself. A woman didn't even grab the briefcase herself. To many watching, the message was loud and clear and it was one of chauvinistic past, "Don't send a woman to do a man's job." Women need a man to climb that ladder, at least according to WWE Creative. Yes, the objective was to get heat on Carmella and Ellsworth, who the WWE are eager to build as heels. If this were the third or fourth Women's Money in the Bank Match, maybe such an ending would be tolerable; but, this was the very first, a proud moment and a Picasso pissed on. The WWE showed an unawareness for the moment and an astounding disrespect for women's wrestling. This was a time to respect women, not to proverbially spit upon them. Even if Carmella had cheated with a steel chair or brass knuckles, had she climbed the ladder herself and grabbed her own briefcase, this discussion would have been much different. That's not what happened. What the WWE showed was that despite all the hard work these women have put in to get their very first Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match, it still took a man to win it and that's difficult to swallow. WWE Creative needs to get a better grasp of history for the betterment of wrestling. WWE showed blatant disrespect to a roster filled with superb female talent. WWE dropped the ball on the thousands of little girls watching live in St. Louis and at home on the WWE Network. The WWE squandered a fantastic opportunity for history and we all lose for it.

Quote of the Week
"Hard work is a crutch for people with no talent." - Baron Corbin on Talking Smack

Five Things I Think I Think
1. Carmella will win the Money in the Bank rematch. The WWE wants to attempt to salvage the terrible finish by letting the women compete once again in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match; but, they won't budge on who they think is the best fit to hold the briefcase. They believe in Carmella as a top heel and they will continue to go with her in that position.
2. Samoa Joe vs Roman Reigns was electric. Talk about a big fight, WrestleMania quality feel feud. Let's hope the WWE swerves us and puts the Universal Championship on Joe. Then let's hope Roman Reigns gets a shot at Samoa Joe's Universal Championship at WrestleMania. We would get a champion week-in and week-out, plus an ultra violent realistic style feud between two large Samoans, who don't seem to like each other very much.
3. The WWE should continue to push the Hype Bros, even going as far as putting the SmackDown Tag Team Championship on the pair. This will only make the Zack Ryder heel turn more believable when it finally does happen. If the WWE stays patient, Zack Ryder vs Mojo Rawley could be a potential WrestleMania 34 match.
4. On the same night the WWE showed virtually no respect to an entire roster of female talent and the millions of women watching on television, Mike Bennett showed he has no problem being called Mike Kanellis. It's 2017 folks. While the move will enrage some (good for Mike and Maria who are heels), it shouldn't. Props to the newly named Mr. Mike Kanellis. A real man shouldn't be afraid to take his wife's last name.
5. Baron Corbin's in-ring abilities go without question. He is one of the most athletic big men in WWE history. With NFL caliber size and strength, it's easy to see what the WWE sees in him; but, I'm not sure if he believes in his own potential. His mic skills need improvement and now that he holds the briefcase they must improve quickly. The WWE has put a lot of faith in him by giving him the Money in the Bank Briefcase and now he needs to show the same faith in himself.

Enzo and Big Cass - How you doin'  now?
Big Cass finally had enough of Enzo's big mouth and it all came to a head this past Monday on RAW. When Cass was cornered by Corey Graves' s damning security footage, Cass finally admitted attacking his tag team partner. Cass exploded with a truth bomb, "I could have snapped your neck like a twig; but, I didn't because I wanted to watch you suffer. For all I put up with at NXT, at Tampa, at RAW, I wanted to watch you suffer. You are dead weight holding me down. I'm the star. I'm the future. I'm where the money is. Your mouth writes checks you can't cash because Big Cass has always been behind you. Me and you, we are through." The WWE has big plans for Cass as a single competitor and the powers that be didn't see enough of an evolution in Enzo & Cass, to take them seriously as legitimate tag title contenders. What's next for Big Cass? First, he will have a brief feud with Enzo Amore and then a longer feud with the Big Show. Cass is expected to go over in both feuds and be seen as WWE's top young big man. How high is Vince McMahon on Big Cass? Not only high enough to separate a very popular tag team and huge merchandise mover; but, according to sources, McMahon sees Big Cass as a future WrestleMania main eventer. Regardless of the outcome, the ending of this tag team was reminiscent to the break up of the Rockers, when Shawn Michaels turned on Marty Jannety, putting him through the glass of the Barbershop Window. Whether Big Cass lives up to the Hall of Fame caliber career Shawn Michaels had remains to be seen. One thing is certain, however. Sorry Enzo, you're Marty.
