FINAL CARD and PREDICTIONS: WWE Extreme Rules
FINAL CARD and PREDICTIONS: WWE Extreme Rules
Sasha Banks and Rich Swann vs Alicia Fox and Noam Dar
Alicia Fox recently shocked the WWE Universe with a clean victory over Sasha Banks. She and her on again off again love interest, Noam Dar, are obviously a more cohesive unit than Sasha Banks and Rich Swann, who have only started pairing. That's about the only advantage Fox has. While Dar and Swann are more evenly matched, the difference in this match will be between Fox and Banks. Banks will no longer take Fox lightly and her superior wrestling ability will be enough to give her team the pinfall victory.
WINNERS: Banks and Swann via pinfall
Submission Match: WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville vs Austin Aries
Aries and Neville wrestled in a largely unheralded classic at WrestleMania 33. The rumors that evening were that Neville was due to drop the WWE Cruiserweight Championship to Aries; however, the match being moved to the pre-show caused WWE Creative to change their minds, as they wanted a title change to be on the main show. Neville has been the Cruiserweight Division's most consistent and dependable champion, holding the Title since January 29th's Royal Rumble. Aries is arguably the biggest star in the Cruiserweight Division and the babyface in this match. It's difficult to fathom the face giving up in a submission style match, especially given that Aries is a superior submission specialist. Look for Aries to get the submission victory and the Cruiserweight Championship.
WINNER and NEW Cruiserweight Champion: Austin Aries via submission
WWE Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose vs the Miz (with Maryse)
There is a reason the Miz has won the Intercontinental Championship a whopping six times. He knows how to win big matches and as a heel, he will use anything to his advantage so long as he can accomplish his goal. Maryse is the Miz' beautiful wife and valet; but, she is so much more than that. As a former WWE Divas Champion, she understands the intricacies of professional wrestling, knowing when to involve herself in a match and when not to. Maryse is the Miz' biggest advantage in this match and she will make all the difference in the world. There is a special stipulation here. If Dean Ambrose is disqualified, he will lose his Intercontinental Championship. Look for the Miz and Maryse to team in breaking the rules when the referee won't see it. Look for an incensed Ambrose to retaliate in the referee's sight line and it will cost him dearly.
WINNER and NEW Intercontinental Champion: The Miz via DQ
Kendo Stick on a Pole Match: WWE RAW Women's Champion Alexa Bliss vs Bayley
This match is intended for violence and is a staple to the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. Bliss, being the clear heel has a clear advantage in this one. She has already shown in the build leading up to Extreme Rules that she is willing to ruthlessly and aggressively use the kendo stick to maim her opponent. She isn't afraid to hurt Bayley in accomplishing her ultimate goal, walking out of Extreme Rules with her WWE RAW Women's Championship still around her waist. As Bliss had pointed out in the build for this match, the lovable Bayley has shown a reluctance to get extreme. Bayley will use her wrestling talent to gain an advantage in the match. She will be the first one to the kendo stick; but, her better angels will win her over and she will make the error of attempting to beat Bliss without the stick. Eventually Bliss will gain the upper hand and use her better demons to beat Bayley with the same stick Bayley earlier discarded.
WINNER: Alexa Bliss via pinfall
Steel Cage Match: WWE RAW Tag Team Champions The Hardy Boyz vs Sheamus & Cesaro
The Hardy Boyz have dominated Sheamus and Cesaro since returning to the WWE at WrestleMania 33. That event saw the two brothers capture the RAW Tag Team Champions in a classic ladder match. Sheamus and Cesaro are two singles stars that were paired together by Mick Foley, not because they had anything in common or any real chemistry. Now they face two blood brothers in an unforgiving steel cage. Look for the match to be extreme and may even require some color (sorry Vince). Such environments will always favor the Hardy Boyz, who personally selected this style match. Look for the Hardy Boyz to shine like the superior team they are and aggressively end their feud with Sheamus and Cesaro.
WINNERS: The Hardy Boyz
Universal Championship #1 Contender's Fatal 5-Way
Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins vs Samoa Joe vs Bray Wyatt vs Finn Balor
The winner of this match will receive a Universal Championship opportunity against Brock Lesnar at WWE's new Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view. Look for the WWE to set up that match and several long-term feuds with this one. Early indications are that the winner of this match will receive only one opportunity to defeat the Beast, meaning their match will be a one off, not a long-term feud. Look for the WWE to use this match to set up a long-term feud between Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt as well as Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe. While Roman Reigns may seem like an odds on favorite (and has arguably earned the right to be considered as such), the WWE will not go to the Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns match until WrestleMania 34. This leaves Seth Rollins as the current odd man out. Wyatt and Balor will take each other out of this one possibly even leaving the arena entirely to battle it out. Wyatt will bring the demon out of Finn Balor, which will cause waves in the WWE, just not for Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire. Samoa Joe and Reigns will reach levels of violence neither have ever seen before, leaving both men incapacitated. Look for the savvy Rollins to utilize the damage they do each to each other to pin one of those two men to attain victory.
WINNER and NEW #1 Contender: Seth Rollins
