7/19/17 - THE WEEKLY WRESTLER - Patience with Styles vs Nakamura, Max Moon, & MUCH More!!!!
THE WEEKLY WRESTLER
Just Wait
On last night's episode of WWE SmackDown LIVE, the WWE teased an inevitable Shinsuke Nakamura vs A.J. Styles match. Nakamura and Styles reminisced about Japan when suddenly Nakamura looked over at Syles' United States Championship and said, "One day you will call and I will answer." While this match is bound to happen, here's hoping the WWE waits until WrestleMania to give it the moment it deserves. No disrespect to the United States Championship, which has made real headway in recent years, if the match is going to be for any title it should be for the WWE Championship. That's what these two deserve and, as fans, that's what we deserve. This is a gigantic match and it should be teased and slowly built for the better part of a year, climaxing at WrestleMania 34 when the two finally lock up ala Ultimate Warrior vs Hulk Hogan. When these two collide it should have the makings of a true Match of the Year and given Styles' latest matches along with Nakamura's obvious in-ring ability, it wouldn't be a stretch to say it could be a potential Match of the Decade candidate.
Quote of the Week
"I want to meet ET! And Alf! And Max Moon! And Chewbacca!" - Tyler Breeze
Five Things I Think I Think
1. The John Cena America angle is old, tired, and very 1991. There's nothing that says Sgt. Slaughter vs Hulk Hogan more than the upcoming Cena vs Rusev match at BattleGround. America is a great country; but, it deserves better than a scripted promo hyping a wrestling match and it certainly deserves better than being desecrated on the floor of a WWE ring. If Cena meant the things he said about America, he wouldn't agree to such a script.
2. John Cena will beat Rusev; but, he shouldn't. When will the WWE open their eyes with Rusev? They saw something in Rusev's former tag team partner Jinder Mahal; but, Rusev is the obvious superior talent and has never received a world championship push. It's time for that to change.
3. Emma expressed unhappiness with her role on RAW; but, ultimately it's her job to get herself over. The WWE has tried repeatedly to get her something: 1. She was Santino Marella's uncoordinated dance partner and that gimmick failed, 2. Her re-birth as non-dancing Emma failed, 3. Emmalina failed, and 4. Her second Emma re-birth also appears to be failing. The Company has given her many chances (including re-hiring her after being arrested for shoplifting) and instead of tweeting about her unhappiness, she should be doing something to improve herself and her gimmick.
4. The SummerSlam main event should and will be Braun Strowman vs Brock Lesnar
5. SummerSlam is ripe for a SHIELD reunion. Reigns should join Ambrose and Rollins to take on Miz and the Miztourage. Ambrose, who has hit a creative snag, should cease the opportunity to turn on his SHIELD brethren after the match.
6. (for good measure) Dean Ambrose has unlimited potential as a heel
The Prodigal Son
All of Kurt Angle's fidgeting and all of the on-screen drama led to one moment: Kurt Angle's long-lost son is none other than former American Alpha member, Jason Jordan. This is a huge opportunity for Jordan, who floundered on SmackDown's mid-card as one half of American Alpha, who were never properly utilized after their call up to the main roster. Jordan now finds himself thrusted to a RAW main event caliber push where he will work side by side WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle. Jordan has earned an opportunity most wrestlers only dream of; but, now that he has been given the proverbial ball, he needs to run with it and capture the ever so elusive brass ring. What will this mean for Jordan going forward? Look for a struggle with his Dad, who will want Jordan to carry on the family tradition and achieve championship gold, so much so that he is willing to pull strings and I dare say, cheat for his son. WWE has also discussed an eventual Kurt Angle vs Triple H Match. How will that play in to things? We'll just have to wait and see and not to ruin a tearful reunion; but, where's the DNA test? Get Maury in here now!
