NEWS: There was a major SmackDown Title change at last evening's WWE house show at Madison Square Garden. A.J. Styles defeated Kevin Owens via pinfall to become the new United States Champion. It is exceptionally rare for a WWE title to change hands at a house show. This is A.J. Styles' second WWE championship, having won the WWE Championship in September 2016 before losing it 140 days later against John Cena at this year's Royal Rumble. Whether Styles holds on to the United States Championship for such an extended period of time remains to be seen. Early backstage grumblings indicate that the WWE decided to make the change due to Kevin Owens injury concerns. There is no word on any injury in particular; but, Owens is considered "banged up" due to a plethora of injuries. WWE may be looking into giving him some time off in the near future to heal those nagging injuries. Video of the Title change can be viewed below.
