NEWS: John Cena Came Close to Becoming a Heel

NEWS: Former WWE writer, Kevin Eck, recently sat down with Pro Wrestling Torch and revealed WWE's plans for John Cena in 2012. According to Eck, the WWE writing team was extremely close to turning John Cena heel. Eck stated,
"We were very close. We had Vince sign off on it at one point and Cena was on board to do it. We started making plans for it and then Vince got cold feet."
Vince McMahon apparently changed his mind due to a then new John Cena merchandise deal with Wal-Mart. That's when Vince interrupted a head writer's booking meeting to inform everyone.
"I know you guys really wanted to do this; but, we just cant," McMahon stated.
According to Eck, there were also concerns over who would replace Cena as the top babyface. CM Punk was considered; but, the WWE had major doubts as to whether he could be the face of the Company. Randy Orton was also considered; however, due to his issues with people, they decided against that route as well. Sheamus was also considered; but, his character obviously suffered over the years, which Eck attributes more to Vince McMahon's interference than anything else. So, for one small moment in history it almost happened: John Cena nearly turned heel. Thanks primarily to Wal-Mart that never happened.
