NEWS: The Strange Story of Shawn Michaels and the Penguins' HBK Line

NEWS: NHL Stanley Cup contenders the Pittsburgh Penguins have a front line collectively known as the HBK line. HBK as in; Carl Hagelin, Nick Bonino, and Phil Kessel. Shawn Michaels came to be known as HBK, as in: Heartbreak Kid. Michaels was completely unaware of the HBK line until HBK started trending in Pittsburgh during a Penguins game. When fans started tweeting at Michaels, they were provided by Twitter gems like the following:


When a Penguins fan asked Michaels to bless the Penguins, Michaels responded with the following tweet:

From there Michaels began showing more interest:

Then HBK became an internet sensation. Fans began to demand Michaels come to a Penguins game. The Penguins officially invited Shawn Michaels, to be their guest:

Even Pittsburgh Steelers Defensive End Brett Keisel got in on the action, offering Shawn Michaels a seat next to his:
Then the WWE Hall of Famer, a native Texan, who admittedly knows very little about hockey finally agreed:


So, the WWE Hall of Famer HBK will be in Pittsburgh for Game 5 to support the NHL's HBK. The whole thing has received so much buzz that there is now even a sandwich named after the HBKs.


Kudos to Shawn Michaels, the Penguins, the HBK line and Brett Keisel. In an era where everything is so uptight, so business, so sterile, it's nice to see a group of millionaire athletes, let loose and have fun apart from the world of agents and marketing. Many athletes would have been enticed to go to court to sue anyone using their moniker; but, none of that happened here. Shawn "HBK" Michaels isn't the original HBK anyway. That title belongs to none other than the King himself, no, not the NHL's L.A. Kings, not Triple H, not Lebron James; but, Elvis Presley.
